Thanks Andy, as I said on the other thread, really interesting project this, because it combines research with education. Good for the Beeb, this is exactly what it should be doing and what commercial media companies can’t because of the experimental nature of the material. Was showing the data visualisations to some students, worked really well.

      Thanks John,
To be honest I don’t know how it will match up to Google. I’m not sure what Google will be offering when it says this “Android developers will not only have access to most of the Android APIs currently available but also to Google TV-specific API extensions that tap into the power of TV. ”
I’m very keen to find out though.
      Cheers
      Andy

Very nice, saw this at the Roundhouse last week, good work andy. Be interesting to see how you develop it. What’s next and how do you think it will match up to Google TV?

p.s. Andy anyway we can post images. Might be nice to share some examples of student work (If I can get them to do anything!)

The learning section with the histories is really useful for student work BTW. Congrats.

By all means! The easiest thing is probably email them to me and I can put them up. andrew.littledale@bbc.co.uk
      Thanks

Andy very nice. All sorts of ways you can take projects that integrate broadcast with data. I take it that this will be part of Canvass and probably not accessable in the US?

Would be nice to get access to the full working prototype.

Generally liking this project a lot and looking forward to new releases. Bit sexier than previous Backstage offerings. :)

      Thanks Josh,
To be honest I’m not involved with Canvas at all and I don’t know what it will look like. This prototype was a more general speculation on useful applications which could use the web on TV.
We’re working on releasing a working prototype that should work for you in the US.
      Cheers
      Andy

Thanks Andy, will look forward to that.

    Hello from Slovakia!
So I understand – IRC channel = the subtitles.
Subtitles sorted via conceptual ontolgy and then threaded through DBpedia which matches BBC web pages?

Nice solution for a web broadcast hybrid.

  7. Neilly says:

Interesting work Andy I guess if you’re using DBpedia and were to release then you would have to make public the source code to fall in line with CC shareAlike attributions?

    Great project nevertheless.

This kind of project (data art) would be so difficult for a public broadcaster in the states to produce. Thanks for sharing the material with us.
